Let's Know About : NASA

December 7th, 2008 admin 2 comments

It’s a one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. this quote is really famous, it’s the one neil armstrong pronounced , once he made his first step , moon ’s surface

without the space agency we’re going to talk about today , maybe neil would have never left mother earth :D and space woud have kept its secrets.

all this has resulted from work and perseverance, of thoushand  men and women :) and they have bytheway made my girl friends dream reachable :) she wants me to give her the moon as christmas gift :) hmmmmm i’ll think about it :p

so lets know about:

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration is an agency of the United States government, responsible for the nation’s public space program. NASA was established on July 29, 1958, by the National Aeronautics and Space Act.

In addition to the space program, it is also responsible for long-term civilian and military aerospace research.

let’s first talk a bit about how it was created

after the launch of sputnik 1 by the soviet, on october 4 , 1957 , the united states had for the first time felt the power of the URSS, and decided then to double the efforts to face what was considered at that time as a threat to US security and technological leadership

and so the us congress after several months of debates , decided to launch a federal agency to conduct all non-millitary activity in space , and as a result The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) was created, which soon became what we know as NASA

many programs have been established by the Nasa , i’ll briefly talk about the mains

The Apollo program

the apollo program , was really innovator, because it had as a goal to land humans on the moon and bring them safe back home ,however this wasn’t easy at all, the apollo 1 ended tragically when during an experimental simulation , the astraunauts died due to fire in the command module. this terrible accident, the nasa was obliged to stop the program and do other tests !!

the deliverance came on july 20 , 1969 when apollo 11 when neil armstrong and buzz aldrin landed were the first men to land on the moon !!

the appollo program helped also by bringing to earth a wealth of scientific data and almost 400 kilograms of lunar sample includind meteoroids, soil mechanics , and even solar winds experiments

Skylab

slylab was the second big project of the nasa, slylab is a 75 tonne space station that was in orbit around earth from 1973 to 1979 , it included also a laboratory for studying the effects of microgravity, and a solar observatory, the skylab was intended to study gravitational anomalies in solar systems, but the program was stoped due to lack of funding and interest.

Apollo-Soyuz test project

the ASTP was the first program where US and the soviet , gathered their forces , the mission took place in 1975

Shuttle era

maybe the main program that nasa focused on since late 1970

the space shuttle was planned to be frequently launchable and reusable , by 1985 four space shuttles were built , and the first to be launched was columbia on april 12 ,1981 .

this mission faced problems also , mainly due to the fact that the flights were much more costing than what was initially considered , and also in 1986 with the the challenger disaster that pushed the nasa to provide more efforts to face the risks o space flight .

this program also helped to create a great collaboration between space agencies from all around the world , the hubble space telescope is an example of this strong collaboration

Nasa’s motto is “For the benefit of all” and for sure , since it’s creation this space agency , has been a key to discover the universe, and help people , to live better in our beloved mother earth :)
